Aceris Law’s ICSID Arbitration Lawyers Desk is a dedicated team of lawyers at Aceris Law, a specialised international arbitration law firm, which accompanies clients involved in ICSID investment arbitrations, i.e., where the ICSID Arbitration Rules apply or the dispute is being resolved under the aegis of the ICSID.
Aceris Law’s Harvard, Oxford and Sorbonne trained lawyers are admitted to bars of Western Europe, Eastern Europe and North America and have significant prior experience dealing with investment treaty arbitrations under the ICSID Arbitration Rules. We are experts in international arbitration: this is all that we do, which allows us to offer more cost-effective fees than other firms for the highest quality international arbitration legal representation.
Our ICSID Arbitration Lawyers Desk has access to all public international law jurisprudence and doctrine, while speaking French, Czech, Slovak, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Arabic, German, Italian, Romanian, Russian, Farsi and English. Our headquarters are located in Geneva, although we also have permanent access to offices in Washington D.C. and Paris, where ICSID hearings usually take place, and we are always accessible to clients, regardless of their location, by high-speed videoconference.
We maintain ties to the best quantum experts for ICSID arbitrations, who are involved depending on the specific needs of a given arbitration.
ICSID arbitrations can be very expensive, with the largest cost component being arbitrator fees and legal fees. Although the fees of arbitrators do not vary, by offering more competitive legal fees for high quality international arbitration legal representation than other firms and being specialised in the domain, we generally can reduce the overall cost of ICSID arbitrations by well over half. We have also successfully assisted clients in obtaining third-party funding for investor-State arbitrations in the past to address the high costs of investment arbitration.
William Kirtley, the principal of Aceris Law, is an American and French national, admitted to the New York and Washington, D.C., bars and a former member of the Paris Bar, with significant experience in arbitrations before the ICSID. He studied at Harvard, Columbia and the Sorbonne, and has worked in the field of international arbitration over the past fifteen years at the highest level, establishing an excellent track record in the process. Dr. Marie-Camille Pitton is an internationally-educated French arbitration special counsel at Aceris Law, registered as an attorney in New York and registered at the Versailles Bar with over a decade of experience in international arbitration. She was formerly Counsel at the ICC in Paris and also studied law at Harvard and Oxford, serving as counsel in numerous investment arbitrations.
